Ooo, what’s that?

So you remember my review of the wrist and ankle cuffs from Stockroom? Aren’t they pretty? Remember I said they had matching collars? This is one of them. It’s the Short Locking Curved Posture Collar in Purple Leather with Black Trim from Stockroom.com. Isn’t it gorgeous?

What’d it come in?

All of the items that came in this batch of sex toys were wrapped in brown packing paper and boxed up in a brown cardboard box. Completely unassuming. No one will be the wiser.

How’s it made?

LengthWidth CenterStrap# of Holes
Short15 1/2″2 1/2″4 1/2″4
Tall12 3/4″4″4 1/2″4

The entire set is handmade, so the dimensions of yours may vary slightly.

The collar comes in three sizes. They are as follows:

  • Small – fits 12 – 14″ neck
  • Medium – fits 14 – 16″ neck
  • Large – fits 16 – 19″ neck

I requested the medium. My neck is between 15 1/2 and 16 inches (depending on the day and how much water I’m retaining…damn my womanhood, anyway), and it fits fine on the last hole. There’s just a bit of a gap between the ends of the collar, which you can’t feel while you’re wearing it, but it kinda looks funny if you wear your hair up. I think I’d prefer the ends overlap for aesthetic purposes.

For that matter, the ends of this collar aren’t finished like the ends of the matching cuffs, and it messes with my OCD mind because they’re not made the same way. Plus, it gives the collar a little bit of an unpolished look and feel, which is sucky if you plan on wearing this with your hair up.

There’s no strap securer (there’s gotta be a technical term for that thing, but if there is, I don’t know it!) on the collars, either, but it’s not as much of an issue because the straps aren’t that long. Because I use this collar on the very longest setting, there’s really no excess strap to speak of. A person with a smaller neck, though, might have issues with the strap getting tangled in their hair.

You may have to take it in to the store with you to fit it for locks. The hole in the buckle is a size or two smaller than the hole in most other collars and cuffs we have, so all our locks were too big.

The leather was a little stiff out of the box, but this is typical of all leather. It will soften with use. And if it feels like it’s not fitting you right, give it time before throwing in the towel. Especially if you’re a beginner to posture collars. Just like all wearable leather, it will eventually begin to mold to your neck and become more comfortable the longer you wear it.

Plus, it takes a bit of practice to get used to wearing posture collars. I mean, how many people do you know who hold their heads in a perfectly upright position all the time?

What’s it for?

While posture collars can be used to exhibit ownership, or let everyone at an event know that you’re a bottom, they’re usually used to control the way a bottom holds their head.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros:Cons:
stunning craftsmanship
elegant design
beautiful coloring
comfortable for long or short term wear
material does not bleed
sturdy
lockable
I’ve got the whole matching set!
a little stiff at first
metal rivets go all the way through
lock loop is small

I have a thing for posture collars. The look of them, and the way women (in particular) look in them. They’re usually elegantly designed, and give a female submissive a more polished look. Plus, there’s just something about the idea of someone controlling everything right down to the way you hold your head that turns me on in a way I can’t describe.

Alas, I have a short neck, and many posture collars are very tall. The whole point is to force the bottom to hold her head up high, so of course they are. But there’s just not enough space between my shoulders and my chin for something so tall!

So of course, when I saw that Stockroom had a shorter version, I had to have it.

Overall, it’s a great product. The material is sturdy. The craftsmanship is amazing, as usual. The colors are beautiful and they don’t bleed.

The collar is comfortable for long term wear, which is big for me because I’m a posture collar beginner. It fits me pretty much perfectly, keeping my head up without causing discomfort beyond, you know, the whole not being able to move my head however I want thing. But that’s part of the reason for buying a posture collar.

I don’t really sweat as much when I’m wearing it as I do with other collars because the trim, like I mentioned in the cuffs review, provides a bit of padding. This sort of holds the material of the collar off your skin, making it very breathable.

There’s just those few changes I’d make to the design, really. I love this so much, otherwise, that I’m probably going to buy the taller one, some day in the future, to see if I can wear it. I guess I should get to measuring my neck.

Anything else I should know?

Measure both the length and circumference of your neck before purchasing this bondage toy.

Because leather is porous, and a collar is apt to get all sorts of fluids on it, it should really be bound to the person wearing it. Of course, some folks say you can soak it in rubbing alcohol to disinfect, and then condition it really well once the alcohol evaporates, but I’ve never done this. I worry it’ll ruin my leather. I do so love my leather.

Make sure you keep your leather clean and dry. If it needs cleaning, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth. If it needs more than that, pick up some saddle soap, or make your own. Always, ALWAYS allow it to dry completely before storing it to prevent mold and mildew. And make sure your storage space is bug-free.

Where’d ya get it?

Stockroom provided this collar to me free of charge in exchange for an honest review. JT’s Stockroom was founded in 1988 by Joel Tucker (JT), a kinky college kid on a budget who just wanted quality leather cuffs that fit his budget and couldn’t find them. So he took up leatherwork and made his own (along with some other restraints), and then later started selling them on BBSes (pre-internet bulletin boards) while making them out of his bedroom. Now they’re known around the world, having been featured in Playboy’s Foursome, ABC’s Castle, and, of course, FX’s American Horror Story.

JT’s Stockroom has won multiple awards from AVN and XBiz. At their store in Los Angeles, they host monthly classes called Stockroom University, and they donate products in support of the BDSM community for things like events and non-profit fundraisers.
