Ooo, what’s that?
If there’s one thing M and I are lacking in, it’s metal handcuffs. We have a pair running around here, somewhere. But if memory serves, we bought it from some random local sleaze shop, so they’re cheap, and easy to get out of.
So, when Sex and Metal offered to let me review some of their stuff, naturally, I jumped at the opportunity. Metal cuffs that look nice, and, when used properly, I can’t escape from? You bet your ass.
That there is the Wrist Traps by Sex and Metal. And we probably should have started with a different set. But that’s not the cuffs’ fault! It’s totally ours.
What’d it come in?
This is utterly ridiculous, but I’ve already forgotten. Can you believe it? Maybe I should start taking pics of the unboxing for my own purposes. In any case, as with most things, I’d suggest opening this product away from prying eyes, just to be on the safe side.
How’s it made?
The way the Wrist Traps are shaped reminds me of a spider.
I used to be creeped out by spiders. In fact, I used to be so creeped out by spiders, that it became family tradition to call me into the room and direct me to do things that would cause me to “accidentally” find a spider the family had already noticed just so they could watch me scream and run away.
Once, a wood spider was building a web in the doorway connecting our kitchen and dining room. Mom and Dad called me in and told me to go look at the door. Of course, I was cautious. And I walked over to the doorway, careful to keep at least arm’s length away to be sure I wouldn’t run into whatever it was they were about to pull.
“What? I don’t see anything!”
Dad grabbed my head and adjusted my gaze. I allowed my eyes to focus on the seemingly empty air. And there, hanging just below eye level was the giant jumping spider. I screamed bloody murder, called my father an asshole for the very first (but not the last) time in my short life and ran from the room.
“I’ll never trust any of you again!” I screamed over my shoulder. Ahh, teenagers.
Joke’s on them, though. Since I moved out of my parents house, spiders have been attracted to me. No matter where I move, the house becomes infested with spiders almost immediately, and no amount of pest control does any good. So I’ve developed a strange sort of respect for the little fuckers. We no longer kill spiders in this house.
ANYway…
Each of the cuffs in the Wrist Traps are in 4 separate pieces. The two pieces meant for the inside of the wrist screw together at the center. The pieces meant for the outside of the wrists slide off completely, and are held in place by two screws. Relatively easy, no?
What’s it for?
Bondage. The cuffs can be used as one unit in front of or behind the body, or can be unscrewed at the center and used separately. However, because of how close together the cuffs are, not all people will be able to use them behind the body, and some may not be able to use them in front of the body either.
How is it?

Pros: | Cons: |
-beautiful color -innovative design -versatile -great for predicament bondage -excellent tool for making the bottom uncomfortable if that’s the goal | -doesn’t work well for people with joint pain -flexibility is a factor in being able to use this product -bottom might be able to unscrew these if they work at it (these are warnings, not failures on the product’s part) |
Okay, so…I like the build of these cuffs. The design is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The Wrist Traps are sturdy, and innovative. I like that you can use them for pretty much anything.
However, they are a bit ponderous and awkward. A person has to sit just so, and position their wrists just right.
The screws that hold the traps closed are a bit long. They get caught on things if the bottom has to move around.
Of course, this adds a bit of fun to things like predicament bondage, and bondage isn’t meant to be comfortable.
We rarely use them, because…well, in truth, my boobs are too big, and my arms are too inflexible for them to be comfortable when they’re screwed together, and my arms are too heavy, and my wrists too bony (interesting conundrum, there) for them to be comfortable in any sort of suspension tie. They’re not too bad when I’m tied to the bed, but if I don’t lay them just right, they dig into my wrists, even if they’re loose.
I do not really view this as a con. Some people are really into predicament bondage. I’m incredibly turned on by the idea, but as I mentioned in this post, I’m having issues with circulation and my joints. That on top of pain caused by the way I’m tied is a bit more than I can handle right now. So we use things that cause less stress to my joints and muscles.
Here’s hoping that as I get back into shape, I gain more flexibility, and we can play around with predicament bondage again, eh? Because I can definitely see how these cuffs would be fun to play with if I wasn’t dealing with unintentional physical pain.
One word of caution…if you’re anal about the appearance of your toys, I’d go with the silver version. The screws that hold the cuffs closed will eventually dig into the enamel of the candy red ones, and expose the steel below.
Anything else I should know?
Care and storage are easy. Wash them with a nonabrasive antibacterial soap and warm water. Dry them. Stow them with the rest of your kink gear. Wrap them in something soft if you want to be sure to avoid scratches or nicks, though I’ve yet to have a problem, and these things have been left laying pretty much everywhere in the house.
Where’d ya get it?
The folks at Sex and Metal sent me the Wrist Traps free of charge in exchange for an honest review. The Wrist Traps are currently about half off over at their store, so if you’re into metal bondage, and you’re either more flexible than me or enjoy predicament bondage, you should really pick up a set.
